Madeline Pfeffer DeMoss

Madeline Pfeffer DeMoss (nee Lundergan), 96, of Ft. Thomas, passed away on May 22, 2020 at Carmel Manor, Ft. Thomas, KY. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish and active in the mother’s club, NKY Planning and Zoning, and Democratic Executive Committee. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bernard T. Pfeffer, Sr. and Robert A. DeMoss, daughter, Donna Schweitzer, son in law, Bruce Schweitzer, parents, Henry and Lena Lundergan, sister, Mary Ann Thomas, brothers, Eugene Lundergan, William Lundergan, Andy Lundergan. Madeline is survived by her daughters, Dianne (Dick) Pentenburg of Lebanon, OH, Carol (Mike) Wells of Alexandria, KY, sons, Bernard T. Pfeffer, Jr. of Dayton, KY, Lou (Nancy) Pfeffer of Melbourne, KY, Tony (Debbie) Pfeffer of Alexandria, KY, 15 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, May 29th from 5pm until 8pm at Dobbling Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home Bellevue (241 Fairfield Ave). Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 30th at 10am at the St. Bernard Church, Dayton, Kentucky. Burial will take place in the St. Mary Cemetery Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. Madeline was born on April 5 1924 and raised in Maysville, Ky; where she met Bernard T Pfeffer Sr. They were married on October 16, 1946, then moved to Dayton, Ky, the location they raised their 6 children, Bernie, Dianne, Carol, Lou, Donna, and Tony. The family was very active with the Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corp, St Bernard’s Church, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. They hosted a number of parties as their home was always open and a welcome place for all. Madeline worked at Lings Bakery for many years. Following the death of Bernie Sr in March 1971, she met Robert A DeMoss and they were married in April 1981. Madeline worked at the Community Action Center in Newport, Ky as the Personnel Mgr. Bob and Madeline were famous for hosting an annual Derby Party at their home in Ft Thomas. They loved attending Reds game and taking long drives with Madeline’s friends. Bob passed away in December 1999. In July 2002, Madeline suffered another major loss in her life. Donna, her youngest daughter died of cancer. Then in 2009, Bruce, Donna’s husband died. Throughout her life, Madeline’s love of family and her faith in God always helped her through difficult times Madeline was an active Grandma with Matt, Missy, Andy, Angie, Michael, Tony, TJ, Chris, David, Kyle, Chad, Tony 2, Bethany, and Bobby; riding her bike with her grandchildren until age 80. Other grandchildren activities included, playing at 72 Scenic View, visiting the lakeside cottage, fishing, cussing day, riding down Monmouth St, sporting activities, eating “eggs in a cup”, and many more Madeline loved spending time with her 38 great-grandchildren, holding them and giving them big hugs. She always had a box of jewelry to entertain them, and always had fun telling them stories. During her stay at St Charles Community and Carmel Manor, Madeline become famous for her Christmas Story Leg Lamp, her wit and humor, and quotes: “God doesn’t want me, the devil doesn’t want me, so you kids are stuck with me”; All I do is eat, drink, pray and pee”; “it doesn’t hurt anyone to wear a smile and say hello” and “ I think God forgot about me”. Throughout Madeline’s life, she never met a stranger, loved talking with people and having fun, had an opinion about everything and everybody, and would pray every day. Madeline will be missed but she will not be forgotten. Family and friends will be telling stories about her legacy for many, many, years to come
