Charlotte Beatrice Louise Feltham Obituary

Feltham, Louise

Charlotte Beatrice Louise Feltham (Louise) passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Louise had a remarkable life. She left a lasting impact. She was a wife and mother, an entrepreneur, a public servant, and a force of nature. She inspired the family motto, “How hard can it be?” She was fearless, and willing to tackle all things. Those around her watched in awe. Born in Newfoundland, Louise moved to Calgary in 1957. Soon after, Louise and Doug started a family.

Louise had a passion for business. This passion included rural land development – Louise created communities and built several homes. She also engaged in farming.

Louise would walk into a crowded room and know everyone before she left. This served her well in politics. Louise served in municipal government for 15 years as a Councillor and Reeve for the District of Rocky View. She also served as a Member of Parliament for five years in the rural riding of Wild Rose.

In all she did, Louise’s impact was groundbreaking – she shattered glass ceilings. Her many firsts included being the first woman to serve as Councillor in a rural riding in Alberta; the first female Reeve of a rural riding in Alberta, and the first woman born in Newfoundland to serve in Federal Parliament.

But mostly, Louise will be remembered by all who knew her as someone who made everyone she met feel special. The world is a far better place for her remarkable life.

Louise is survived by her husband of 64 years, Douglas; her daughter, Donna (Mike); her two sons, Glenn (Tammi) and Gary and five grandchildren, Alex, Aly, Douglas, Austin, and Josie. She also leaves behind innumerable nieces, nephews, cousins, friends as well as her five brothers and sisters, Jack, Blanche, Sylvia, Herb, and Cynthia.

Due to COVID-19, a private Memorial Service is necessary. The family plans to have a Celebration of Louise’s Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Louise requested that donations may be made in her memory to Hospice Calgary / Rosedale Hospice. The family wishes to thank the Rosedale staff for their kindness, care and compassion.
