Shahshikant Shah Obituary

Shashikant Shah, age 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25th, 2020 with his loving family by his side. He is survived by Sarla, his wife of almost 49 years, sons Sujay (Gina), Rajay (Priya), and grandchildren Jayen, Aryah, Dylen, Jade and Zion. He is predeceased by his loving son, Ajay. Shashi was born September 20, 1945 in Nairobi, Kenya, the third son of late Somchand Pethraj Shah and late Kasturben Somchand Pethraj Shah. A fiercely dedicated family man and a true entrepreneur, Shashi began honing his skills in the family business, Riachand Petraj & Company at an early age. By his teens he began building the ever successful Handloom Wholesalers textile business in Mombasa along with his brother Amu. In 1974, Shashi came to Canada at the behest of his brother Praful, with a dream in his eyes and a drive in his heart to forge a legacy for his family for generations to come. Shashi, along with his three brothers including Tony and Baba, steadfastly applied himself to build Shah Trading Company, and later with his three sons, built Shashi Foods Inc. to nurture them both into thriving world class businesses. A joyful man with a big and charismatic personality, Shashi was a pleasure to be around. He will be remembered for his infectious beaming smile and his inspiring zest for life. His visionary mindset would always be master planning and one could not help but be motivated by his energy and excitement. Be it preparing his signature chicken curry or hammering together a plan to build a new factory, Shashi would draw in all those around him and make them a part of the action. Shashi’s ultimate joy was his family. From gardening with his grandchildren to debating business and sports with his adoring sons, or to enjoying time with his beloved wife, Sarla, Shashi never felt better than when he was surrounded by his loved ones. His love for giving and gentle compassion knew no bounds, and his recent generous donation to the Toronto Jain Society has cemented his legacy as a great man. We salute Shashi for being a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. Fare thee well our Captain, you will be greatly missed. Om shanti, Om shanti, Om shanti. May you rest in peace. Smiles ~G~
