SARA ANN CUDDINGTON LIESTER Sara Ann Cuddington Liester of Westminster, wife of the late Robert E. Liester Sr., passed away at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, South Carolina on Friday May 22, 2020. Born in Goldsboro, North Carolina to the late Lester B. Cuddington, Sr. and Frances Williamson, Sara is survived by her children John N. Case, III, Mary F. Chase (Wayne), and Christian F. M. Case (Hope); grandchildren Sarah Varner (Seth), Michael Case, Marissa Golas (Devan), Victoria Case, and Ashley Stull; great-grandsons K. Beau Varner, Colton K. Case, and Tristan Stull; siblings Barden Cuddington (Pat), Danny Cuddington (Sherry), Bobbie Sue Kesinger (Jimmy), and Judy Taylor. Sara attended Polk Community College in Lakeland, Florida, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She loved being an R.N. and used her abilities and knowledge in many future endeavors. While in Florida, she was head nurse of pediatrics and charge nurse of the emergency room in Winter Haven. It was during her time, working in the emergency room where she truly found her calling. After moving to Connecticut in mid 1970's, Sara joined the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department and trained to be an Emergency Medical Technician with the fire department's ambulance service. Through further training, Sara became an EMT Instructor and CPR Instructor, training and re-certifying many future EMT's and MRT's. Sara was also instrumental in creating a program for 8th grade students at Lisbon Central School, in which students were taught and certified to practice CPR in an emergency situation; a program that has continued for many years. Sara worked as the OSHA nurse for Plastic Wire and Cable in Jewett City, Connecticut, per diem nurse for home care and night charge nurse at the State of Connecticut Department of Disability Services' Seaside Regional facility in Waterford, Connecticut. Shortly afterwards, Sara attended the University of Connecticut, graduating with her Bachelor Degree in Sociology, which she used to work for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services as a social worker in the Norwich, Connecticut office. She retired a few years later due to health concerns, but always remained an 'old nurse' at heart. Sara's love of books made her an avid reader, often reading a new political thriller or cookbook, from cover to cover, within a few hours. Her love of cooking was enjoyed by many, had briefly dabbled in catering events for family and friends, and often brought baked goods to doctor appointments for the medical staff to enjoy. In August of 2017, after the death of her husband, Sara moved to Westminster, South Carolina to be closer to her daughter. It was here that she was accepted into the community of Foxwood Hills with open arms, becoming a member of the Red Hat Society's local chapter, the Purple Vixens, and made many friends. She loved the Foothills area and every time she drove down the Cherokee Scenic Foothills Parkway, she'd sigh and say, 'look at my beautiful mountains'. To many; she was Sara, Sara Ann, Miss Sara, Mom, and Mimi. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed. At this time, due to Covid-19, there will not be a service, but a celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or Easter Seals.
