Carol Jean Krie, age 72, of Red Wing, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, surrounded by her family, following a year-long battle with cancer.

Carol was born on Oct. 1, 1947 in Red Wing, the oldest of four daughters to Richard and Grace (Lubnow) Josephson. She was baptized on Dec. 14, 1947 at the Eidsvold Lutheran Church. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1965. On April 18, 1970, Carol married Jerry Krie at the Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Esdaile, WI. They lived in Cannon Falls for 33 years before moving to their lake home in McGregor, MN, where they lived until moving to Red Wing in 2018. They had two children.

Carol had a strong work ethic. She started working at age 14, at Brownies in Hager City, peeling potatoes. She then worked for Erickson’s Food Mart, Red Wing, as a cashier. At the age of 19 she began working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MN. She was employed there 34 years, working her way up to the head of word processing and then to Facilities Management Manager. She then began selling real estate in Cannon Falls and McGregor until her retirement in 2018.
Carol was a member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Family was very important to her. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma.  She was a great baker, something she inherited from her mother. She loved flowers and planting her flower gardens every spring. She enjoyed sewing, and, in later years, quilting. In 50 years of marriage Carol and Jerry enjoyed many activities together. Bowling, snowmobiling, dirt bike riding, fishing, and going to the cabin. Spending their winters in Mission, TX, and at W&I Resort where they made many friends they hold dear.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Joanne, in-laws Clarence and Ione (Kloke) Krie, brother-in-law Gary Swanson and Sister-in-law Janice Swanson.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Jerry; daughter Denee (Randy) Johnson; son Joshua (Kasey) Krie; grandchildren Blake (Kelsey) Krie, Brady (Taylor) Johnson, and Kaia and Landon Krie; great-grandchild Kayden Krie; sister Bonnie (Ronald) Peterson; in-laws Jane Swanson, James and Sharon Krie, John and Shelia Krie, and Dennis Swanson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life gathering for both Carol and her husband Jerry will be on Saturday. Nov. 14 from 5 - 8:00 pm, in the basement of the Nelson Scofield VFW Post # 4452, 218 4th St. N, Cannon Falls, MN 55009. A Masonic Service for Jerry will be at 5:00 pm and there will be a military honors ceremony for Jerry by the Cannon Falls Honor Guard at 5:30 pm, just outside the VFW.
