<p>New Holland, SC &ndash; Lyndon Reeves Carey, 82, entered into rest at his home on January 11, 2017.&nbsp; Mr. Carey was born on October 21, 1934 in Anderson, SC.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, William Reeves and Annie Mae Newell Carey and an only brother Charles T. Carey of Sparta, NC.</p> <p>Mr. Carey graduated from Anderson Boys High in 1952.&nbsp; He attended Anderson College for 2 years where he met Gwendolyn Mauldin of Lavonia, GA, who he found very attractive and stole his heart. They married on September 3, 1955. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in September.&nbsp;</p> <p>Mr. Carey received his Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Physical Education from Erskine College in 1957.&nbsp; He coached football and basketball in Pendleton, SC Lavonia, GA, and Waynesboro, GA before moving to Wagener, SC.&nbsp; He received his Master&rsquo;s Degree in Education from Georgia Southern and later his Educational Administration Certification from the University of South Carolina.&nbsp; He served as Principal for the School District of Aiken County at Busbee Elementary, Wagener-Salley High School, and Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary/Middle before becoming Area 4 Assistant Superintendent.&nbsp; He retired in 1998 after 41 years in the education field.&nbsp;</p> <p>Mr. Carey served on the Aiken Technical College Board of Directors from 1999 to 2003.</p> <p>Mr. Carey was a devoted member of the Wagener United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parrish Committee, Board of Trustees, and other various committees for many years.</p> <p>Mr. Carey served in the Georgia National Guard and the South Carolina National Guard.</p> <p>Mr. Carey leaves behind beside his devoted wife; two sons, Michael (Jackie) of Plantation, FL and Mark (Patricia), and one daughter, Melody (Ronnie) Hutto. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Jason (Aubrey)Carey, Christopher (Kimberly) Carey of New Holland, SC; Carey Branham and Danielle Robinson of Wagener, SC; Ashley (Ryan) Soule of Jacksonville, FL, and Brittany Carey of Plantation, FL. Mr. Carey leaves behind eleven great grandchildren.&nbsp; Mr. Carey also leaves behind many friends, former students, and co-workers that he dearly loved and cared for.</p> <p>Visitation will be held at Blizzard Funeral Home Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.&nbsp; Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the Wagener United Methodist Church in Wagener with visitation immediately following in the Church social hall.&nbsp; Grave site services will be held privately at New Holland Cemetery.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Wagener United Methodist Church at P. O. Box 265, Wagener, SC 29164 or the Epworth Children&#39;s Home at P. O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250 or online at <a href="http://www.epworthchildrenshome.org/give/">www.epworthchildrenshome.org/give/</a></p> <p>Pallbearers will be Christopher Carey, Jason Carey, Butch Jackson, Paige Kirkland, Hoyt Mauldin, Isaiah Moore, Rodger Sharpe and Charlie Tyler.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

New Holland, SC – Lyndon Reeves Carey, 82, entered into rest at his home on January 11, 2017.  Mr. Carey was born on October 21, 1934 in Anderson, SC.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Reeves and Annie Mae Newell Carey and an only brother Charles T. Carey of Sparta, NC.
