Leslie "Les" Wetmore Obituary

 

Leslie Wetmore, 93, of Wausau passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at Our House Senior Living.

Les was born May 3, 1927 in Port Edwards to the late Earl and Lola (Carlton) Wetmore.  After graduating from high school, Les earned an Accounting Degree through North Central Technical College.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy.  After returning to Wisconsin, Les worked at Memorial Hospital in Wausau where he met his future wife, Mae Adams.  They were married on April 15, 1950 in Hancock.  Les and Mae farmed in Hancock while raising their two sons, Daniel and David.  He drove school bus for 10 years, served on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Board of Directors and for 38 years was the Hancock Town Clerk.  Les also worked for the Waushara County Highway Department retiring after 22 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening, polka dancing and watching TV. 

Survivors include his sons, Daniel (Cathy) Wetmore of Blaine, MN, Rev. David (Louise) Wetmore of Kronenwetter, five grandchildren, Daniel “Scotty” Wetmore, Lori (David) Vig, Heather (Dan) Hurlbert, Robin (Justin) Moravec, Ethan (Samantha) Wetmore and three great grandchildren, Connor and Alex Vig and Jace Hurlbert.  Les was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, infant son, Donald and sister, Ruth Sours.  

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2020, at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau.  Reverend Steve Vaudt will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Burns Post #388. Burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Coloma. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.  You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
