Psalm 23: 4 " Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."<br><br>The Family Tribute<br>Day is done, gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills, from the sky<br>All is well, Safely rest… God is nigh.<br><br>Mr. Victor Wellington Heaggans, was born in Iredell County <br>on March 23, 1975, and was the son of Richard Michael Heaggans and Carol Reid Cherry. He departed this life on Friday, May 22, 2020, at his residence. <br>Vic, as he was affectionately called was awarded US Army First Region United States Army ROTC Cadet Command Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Certificate of Achievement in June of 1992. He was a 1993 graduate of West Rowan High School and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Kaplan University where he received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration in March of 2017. He received numerous awards and certificates over the years including a Certificate of Good Conduct from the United States Marine Corps on January 3, 2000, January 4, 2006, and several other years. He received a Certificate of Commendation on January 18, 1999, from the United States Marine Corps; a Certificate of Training from the Department of the Navy for the Course of Aeronautical Technical Publication Library (ATPL) Management; a Certificate of Commendation on November 1, 1998 for Outstanding performance of duty while serving as the Ordinance/Hazardous Materials Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Aircraft Group 16, Third Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Forces Pacific from September 1, 1998 to October 1, 1998; and appointed Corporal in the United States Marine Corps on December 1, 1996. <br>He received a Navy Achievement Medal from the Department of the Navy for Professional Achievement in the Superior performance of his Duties while serving as the Ordinance and Tool Room Advance Party NCOIC, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Aircraft Group 16; received a Tan Belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program on May 14, 2003; and received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from the Department of the Navy on October 5, 2004. <br>He received the National Society of Collegiate Scholars membership in 2016 and the Veterans National Honor Society on August 10, 2016. After graduating high school, he served our country in the United States Marines and was honorably discharged on October 19, 1999 and received a Certificate of Reenlistment on October 20, 1999; he was appointed as a Marine Staff Sergeant on January 1, 2002. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps on October 13, 2003; and received a Certificate of Reenlistment on October 14, 2003. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps on March 20, 2007. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard Lee Heaggans and Bernice Heaggans and his maternal grandparents, James Reid and Mary Cottrell.<br>He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, his father, Richard (Susan) Heaggans of Advance; his mother, Carol Reid (Kenneth, Sr.) Cherry of Mooresville; a brother, Cameron Heaggans of Advance; sisters, Jocelyn (Robert) Barber of Statesville, Miranda Heaggans and Mackenzie Heaggans, both of Advance; special friend, Crystal Hicks of Denver, NC, a special neighbor and friend, Duke (Juanita) Glaspy of Statesville; nieces, Jacqueline Ballard, Jalissa Barber, JaTannah Barber, Jamison Barber and Kyleigh Heaggans; a great niece, Camila Diaz; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.<br><br>As long as life and memory last…<br> We will remember thee.<br><br><br>A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Monday, June 1, 2020, 10:30 am, Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville, N. C. Burial will follow at the National VA Cemetery, Salisbury, NC, at 1:00 pm.<br>Mr. Heaggans will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where public viewing will begin on Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.<br><br>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heaggans Family, c/o Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, 603 South Center Street, Statesville, North Carolina 28677.<br><br>There will be NO PUBLIC VISITATION, unfortunately, with the COVID-19 Virus we, at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, along with other funeral homes across the country, have been issued a mandate to limit the number of family and/or friends at funeral services.
