Hester Adams Cope

Mrs. Hester Adams Cope, age 90, of Green Hill Place in Toccoa, Ga. passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at her home. A daughter of the late Thomas Raymond Adams and Illma Garten Adams, she was born February 12, 1930 in Nashville, Tennessee and has lived in Toccoa for the past thirty-five years. Mrs. Cope was a member at the Toccoa Presbyterian Church. She was a member and one of the original founders of the Toccoa Habitat for Humanity. She loved children and supported the Boys and Girls Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Thomas Cope, Sr., by her second husband, James Haynes, and by a daughter, Connie Cook. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cherri and Larry Shaw and Nanette and Gary Donahue all of Toccoa; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis Thomas Cope, Jr. and CeCe Cope of Grayson, Georgia; grandchildren, Ann Anderson, Todd Cope, Danny Pittman, Aimee McClain, Garrett Cook, Lindsie Kennedy, Erin Martin, William Oliver, Benjamin Oliver, and Matthew Oliver; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert Adams of Sparta, Missouri, sister, June MacIndoe of Lake Wiley, South Carolina; a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Reverend Paul Rettew officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Danny Pittman, Todd Cope, Garrett Cook, Ben Oliver and T.R. Adams. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, 44 Colonial Drive, Toccoa, Georgia 30577, and/or to the Boys and Girls Club, 71 West Whitman Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577, and/or to the Hope Center 158 South Broad Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mrs. Hester Cope. Due to the current conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be having a formal visitation. Please keep the family in your prayers in the coming days.
