Mother Eletha Humphrey Obituary

MOTHER ELETHA HUMPHREY was born on February 3, 1930 in Somerville, TN to Hester and Myrtle Webb. They preceded her in death. She was educated in the Fayette County School System.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Joe H. Humphrey on December 27, 194 7, who preceded her in death. To this union seven children were born, two preceded her in death Qoe Henry Jr. and Napoleon).

She also raised her sister, Dr. Marlene Moore-Glass, and her granddaughter, Iisa M. Evans, as her own daughters. In 1956, they relocated their family to St. Louis, MO, where she and her husband worked and became well established with several homes and rental properties, a Grill and Sandwich Shop and Joe's Grocery Store. God blessed them tremendously.

It was through the witnessing of the late Mother Bessie Jean Brown that Mother Humphrey came to know of salvation. In 1960, Mother Humphrey was baptized in the name of Jesus and was filled with the Holy Ghost under the leadership of the late Bishop Walter McMichael. Since her acceptance of salvation, she served faithfully in many capacities: Sunday School teacher, Young People's Director, President of the Missionary Department and President of Wednesday Noon Prayer. She was a great soul winner, and her outreach ministry reached worldwide. As a beacon, she even lead her siblings to holiness.

Mother Humphrey served under the late Bishop Lawrence E. Brown Sr. at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ and was a pillar to that work as well as the Pentecostal Power Church under the leadership of Bishop Charles H. Webb Sr.

She was also a support to New Beginnings Church in Portageville, MO under Bishop Sylvester H. Burris and is a present member of Temple Church of Christ under Suffragan Bishop Ron E. Stephens.

Mother Humphrey continued to work diligently for the Lord until her health began to fail. Mother Humphrey was called home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2020 at approximately 2:4 3 AM. She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters: Dorothy HumphreyHolmes, St. Louis, MO; Ruth Burris (Bishop Sylvester H. Burris), Dyersburg, TN; Elder Belinda Hurt (Kelvin), Sandra Gardner (Leonard), Joe K. Humphrey Sr., all of St. Louis, MO; one brother: Bishop Charles H. Webb, Sr. (LaVern); three sisters: Gloria]. Clay-Turner (Kenneth),Joyce M. Eaton (Victor), Dr. Marlene Moore-Glass (Darrell) all of Bethlehem, PA; four sisters-in-law: Lizz Hayslett (W.C.) of Atlanta, GA, Earnestine Humphrey of Summerville, TN, Romazia Humphrey of TN, Bernice Humphrey of Arlington, TN; two brothers-in-law: Tommy Humphrey of Memphis, TN and Roosevelt Humphrey (Sarah) of Grand Junction, TN. She leaves twenty grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual family and friends. A special thanks to her God children (Darryl Mayhorn and Erica Powers) whom loved her dearly.
