Billy Joe Mercer, age 73 of Chadbourn passed on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville.                 A memorial service will be held at a later date.                 He was the son of the late Homer Lee Mercer and Clyde Mercer.  Billy was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Kelly Mercer.                 He was owner and operator of Mercer’s Heating and Air for over 27 years.  Billy Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army.                 He is survived by a son, Matthew Hall Mercer of the Home; step-children, Ray “Biddle” Fisher and his wife, Jamie of Dillon, SC and Lisa F. Nobles of Chadbourn; three grandchildren, Brady Mercer, Gabrielle Mercer and Hailey Mercer.                 Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is serving the family.
