Donald M. McCallum
Donald M. McCallum, 82, a lifetime Lapeer resident died Friday, May 22, 2020. Don was born February 8, 1938 in Lapeer to Lyle and Vera (Billings) McCallum. He graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1956. He married Patricia White on November 7, 1959 in Troy, Michigan. Don served his country proudly in the US Marine Corps. Early on, he worked 20 years at Cutting’s Lumber in downtown Lapeer. During 15 of his 20 years at the lumber yard, Don worked part time for the City of Lapeer Police Department - eventually he retired from the City with over 25 full-time years of service as a police officer. He was on the City of Lapeer Fire Department for over 15 years. Don was extremely active serving the community outside of work and was a member of many organizations including: American Legion Post #16, Lapeer Area Elks, Lapeer Eagles, Lapeer Alumni Association and the Lapeer County Historical Society where he served on the board for many years. Don’s hobbies included restoring and showing antique cars, traveling with Pat in their motor home, Lapeer history, trips to Onaway and watching his grandsons play ball. Don is survived by his wife, Patricia McCallum; son, Scott (Julie) McCallum of Lapeer; four grandsons: Conner McCallum, Payton (Monica) McCallum, Colin (Micaela) McCallum and Ian (Jenna) McCallum. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents; sister, Suzanne Brenner; mother & father in-law, Emmanuel and Marion (Hill) White and his great grandson, Brody Scott McCallum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lapeer County Historical Society, Lapeer Elks or the Lapeer Eagles. In keeping with Don’s wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Don’s family is planning a celebration of life to be held in the near future. Don will be interred in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lapeer. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
