Valerie Gay Bowling Obituary

Valerie Gay Bowling, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, at her residence.

Born September 17, 1948, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Willard and Ivy May (Buckland) Gerth.  

Valerie received her bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Medical Technology from Indiana University. She worked as a medical technician in the laboratory for St. Francis Hospital for 41 years. Valerie enjoyed gardening, traveling, baking and spending time with her family especially her grandkids.

Valerie is survived by her sons, Joe (Brooke) Bowling of Greenwood and Jim (Angel) Bowling of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Willard (Paula) Gerth of San Jacinto, and Lennard (Dawn) Gerth of Elkton, Florida; grandchildren, Julie Bowling and Emily Bowling both of Greenwood.

She was preceded in death by her father Willard Gerth and mother, Ivy Gerth who was from London, England.

A funeral service for Valerie will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Graham Presbyterian Cemetery in Jennings County. In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines, it is recommended that social distancing be maintain. We thank our families for their continued cooperation during these difficult times as we strive to help keep our community safe.
