Evelyn Swinney, 98, of Rockford, died on Friday, May 22. 2020. Born on April 23, 1922, in Paragould, Arkansas, the daughter of Alfred and Dora (Thompson) Boyd. Evelyn worked as a CNA for over 75 years. Evelyn married the love of her life, Jack Swinney, on June 25, 1959. He predeceased her in 2009. She enjoyed fishing, crafts and caring for others, her home was always open for family and friends in need. She helped run the family business, One Stop Bait and Archery in Machesney Park, and was known as “The Bait Lady.” She may not have been wealthy but she was rich with Love. She was a pretty funny lady, and could embarrass most anyone and then make you laugh. She was able to see her daughter Sunday and tell her she loved her, give her kisses, and smile. She was a child of God, and is now reunited with the Love of her life, Jack. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her. She was a very loving mother of daughter Priscilla (Keith) Miller. Her other pride and joy was her grandson Dylan (Judy) Miller. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Jeannette Geffort, Gary Parrish, Carole Rose, and Gladys Miller. Predeceased by her parents; sisters, Flora Erby and Augusta Boyd; brothers, Willy, Austin and Pete Erby; and special friend Ann Zellers. A “Moving” Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 28th, 2020 at Olson North Main Chapel, 2811 N. Main St., Rockford 61103 and again from 1:00 to 2:00 on Friday, May 29. Guests will be asked to respect appropriate and designated distancing and limit time with family based on congestion. Private family burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family.
