Ronald A. “Ronnie” Smith, age 75 passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 22, 2020 at his home in Nashville.

Ronnie was born on March 30, 1945 in Bloomington, to his parents, the late Arthur W. and Dorothy Rae (Simmons) Smith. He was a 1963 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to serve as a Private with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Ronnie retired from being a self-employed Christmas Tree Farmer and the owner and operator of Brown County Rock Stone. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Brown County.    

Ronnie enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and tending to his vegetable garden. He was a fan of old western movies with John Wayne being his favorite actor. Ronnie was also a fan of college basketball with Indiana University being his favorite team. He will be remembered for being a storyteller and for his sense of humor. Ronnie will also be remembered for sitting under his shade tree with his dog, Junior, and enjoying his Brown County property.

He is survived by his children, Lori (Donnie) Parr of Nashville, Paul Smyth of Mooresville and Shawn (Karen) Smyth of Greenwood; siblings, Nancy Hafner of Tuscumbia, Al, and Steve (Colleen) Smith of Nashville; former wife, Linda Smith of Nashville; grandchildren, Jesse Parr, Danny Smyth, Drew Smyth, Cameron Smyth, Hope and Josh Stout, and Shelby Smyth; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Parr.

The Rev. Jim Ackerman will conduct a graveside service on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville. There will visitation from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.

The family would especially like to thank RN Jessica Walker and Our Hospice of Central Indiana for their gentle care and compassion.
