Roger LaVerne Larson, Berwick, IL passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on July 14th, 1940 to Jesse and Lena (Sorrells) Larson. He graduated from Avon High School, attended Monmouth College and was a member of the Air National Guard.

In 1972, he married Beverly Lewis, Abingdon, IL, and they started a family. When he wasn’t working hard to provide for his family, he enjoyed selling seed corn for Sieben and being active in his community and the church.

After he retired, you could see him cruising his massive gardens, melon and pumpkin patches, along with his sweet corn plots on his modified John Deere. If he wasn’t outside making the rounds, he was inside reading the Penny Saver sales and coupons to his wife, working in his Sudoku book that was never difficult enough, or cutting out crossword puzzles for his son.

He enjoyed a good seed catalog and being an amateur engineer. He could always come up with a solution to any design problem. He also enjoyed a good container. One could never have too many buckets or parmesan cheese bottles.

Mainly, he enjoyed the simple life of being on the farm with his family and friends and helping anyone in any way that he could.

He will be missed by his wife, Beverly of 48 years, their dog Henry, son Adam Larson (Henderson, IL), daughter Leah Larson, and many friends that he thought of as family.

Due to the social distancing limitations because of the pandemic, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held. Cremation rites have been accorded. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with his arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon-Avon School District #276 Band Department, Agricultural Department, or the Lunch Program or to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
