Charlene Draper "Kitty" Horton

Charlene Draper "Kitty" Horton, 67, of 1226 Hassell Horton Road, Hurdle Mills, died Friday, May 22, 2020. Born in Person County, Miss Horton was the daughter of the late James Harold and Nellie Crews Horton. She graduated from Person Senior High School in 1970. She then graduated from Elon University and then received her Master's degree from NC A & T. She was a beloved school teacher for many years. Miss Horton not only drove a regular bus route, but also for many out of town activity trips. She coached many sport teams. After retirement she operated Person Driving Academy and was a referee for many games. Her true love was for her babies, Wray Wray, Flip Flop and Nellie Belle. She would even feed and take on stray animals as well as feeding the deer and her chickens, just to observe them eat. Miss Horton was an advocate for all animals, domestic and wild. Gardening was her passion. She grew a large amount of vegetables, canned them and she gave away all the extra to her friends and family. She also collected antique farm machinery to keep for future generations. Miss Horton was an avid Mayberry and Andy Griffith fan. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Miss Horton is survived by her brother, Art Horton and wife Betty, of Hurdle Mills; her sister, Joy Hill and husband Terry, of Timberlake; her nephew Jonathan Hill and her great-nephews, Jax, Cam and Fin.
