Zelma A. Tannehill Obituary

Zelma A. Tannehill, age 103, a resident of Romeo since 1996 and formerly from Colorado, passed away on May 22, 2020 at Advantage Living Center in Armada, Michigan where she currently resided.  Zelma was born in Delcarbon, Colorado on August 2, 1916, the daughter of Byrel S. Goss and Mary “Elwell” Goss. After graduating from High School in Walsenburg, Colorado in 1932, she attended Midwest Commercial College in Pueblo, Colorado and earned her degree in Administrative Business.  She married her husband Gerald E. Tannehill on July 27, 1936 in Silverton, Colorado. They had two daughters. Byrl & Joyce and raised them at their home in Pueblo, Colorado. In 1952 Zelma gained employment as a bookkeeper for the Pueblo County School Administration Office for six years and later on was employed by the CF&I Steel Corporation in the accounting office as head Stenographer & Bookkeeper and retired after 26 years. Upon her & her husband’s retirement they built a new home in LaVeta, Colorado and resided there until her husband’s death on April 1, 1992.  During her time in LaVeta she belonged to Territorial Daughters of Colorado, Southern Chapter and was a member of Eastern Star.   In 1996 she moved to Romeo Michigan to be with her daughter Joyce and her family.  During her time in Romeo she made many friends at the Romeo Senior Center and in her condo community.  She attended the Romeo United Methodist Church and loved the fish fry dinners during lent. She had many hobbies including embroidery and crewel, crocheting, sewing and was well known for being a great cook.  She loved to play cards and square dance with her family & friends.      Zelma is survived by her daughter Joyce (Robert) Schwirz of Romeo, along with granddaughters: Katherine Hawrylko of Tennessee, Kristine Blake of Michigan and Kandace Brown of California and eight great-grandchildren Savannah, Ian, Kayla, Richie, Alyssa, Rachael, Shawna & Isabella.  Surviving siblings include Mildred (Melton) Estes & Dolores (Carl) Davidson both of Colorado and Nola Cox & Mary Mansfield-Rodier both of Florida. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Zelma was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Tannehill, daughter Byrl Elaine Tannehill and siblings: Buster Goss, Margaret “Goss” Clair, Hannah “Goss” Rohr, Robert Goss and Olena “Goss” Ottinger.      Funeral services will be private.  Donations to Territorial Daughters of Colorado, Southern Chapter where Zelma was a lifetime member would be greatly appreciated.  Donations can be sent in care of Treasurer Kathy West at P.O.
