David "Ro" Thomas Obituary

David Brooks Thomas, 69, of Hoover, AL, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Thomas, mother, Kathryn Thomas, as well as his two sons, Adam Thomas and Christopher Sawyer.

Ro was raised in Homewood, AL.  He was baptized as a baby at Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood. As a young man, he attended and was educated at Edgewood Elementary School, Homewood Junior High School, Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, TN and Jacksonville State University.

As an avid University of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan, he enjoyed both attending and watching games and rarely missed a single game.  When his boys were young, he spent many years coaching regular season little league baseball and All-Star teams, as well as youth football at Hoover Ball Park. Along with his love of sports, Ro had a sincere passion for sponsoring and helping others achieve and maintain sobriety.  He was a decades long employee, in management, at Metro Mini Storage and Truck Rental.

Ro was a kind-hearted and loving husband, brother, father and grandfather who went by ‘Papa’ to his three granddaughters.  He is survived by his wife, Renée Parker Thomas, and sister, Dawn Thomas, both of Hoover, AL.  He is also survived by his oldest son, Aaron Thomas (Lisa) of Vestavia Hills, AL and daughter, Rebeccah Myrick (Jeff) of Irondale, AL, and was blessed with his granddaughters, Katie Thomas, 16, Lily Myrick, 15, and Abbey Myrick, 14.  He will be missed tremendously by his family and a host of very dear friends that he considered his family.

Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover with Reverend Derek Jacks officiating.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, World Central Kitchen or a charity of your choice.
