Ruth Fuller

Ruth Fuller, of Tinton Falls, passed away, Friday, May 22, 2020. Ruth and her husband Cal had moved to Tinton Falls after living in East Rutherford and Rutherford her whole life. Ruth was born Ruth Elaine Lendick on September 16, 1930, to parents John and Marion (Barclay) Lendick. Ruth had one brother Robert 5 years her Junior. She lived her early years on Rose Street in the Carlton Hill area of East Rutherford and began her Church association with the Carlton Hill Methodist Church. Ruth still has her Baptismal and Cradle Roll certificates from the Carlton Hill Church. Ruth graduated from East Rutherford High School (the present Faust School), and immediately began her career in office/secretarial work, in NYC. She worked two years for a Marine Supply Company, but then was offered a position at the Methodist Church Headquarters. She worked there for the next nine years both in the office of the Treasurer of Foreign Missions and the legal department where wills were established for all Methodist missionaries. In 1954 Ruth joined a “Doers Club” through the YMCA in Passaic and during one of their activities, she met Cal, who was from Massachusetts and played the piano. They were married in 1956. Cal’s love of the water led them to begin renting at Lake Hopatcong for 11 years, but eventually in 1968 bought their own lovely home on the lake. When the Methodist headquarters moved to offices in Brooklyn, Ruth decided not to commute that far. She then signed up as a temp for “Man Power Temp Agency” who they sent her to the Gulf Oil Company. She was hired by them permanently and spent the next 22 years with them until she and Cal decided to retire in 1986. Ruth served as a Sunday School Teacher at Carlton Hill Methodist Church for 37 years! (Can you imagine the length of her Sunday School pin?) Many of those Sunday mornings she commuted back and forth from their weekend-home at the lake. Ruth had led the United Methodist Women for many years, faithfully singing alto in the choir, and as a Trustee taking care of all the Insurance needs. Moving to Tinton Falls was a loss to everyone at the Church. But her good friends of many years there were also happy for her the she had moved to a condo, not having to worry about upkeep, repairs and landscaping 2 homes, and doing all the jobs she did for the church. Ruth had said she was going to relax and visit family and friends who had lived close by. She also wanted to get back to playing her accordion. Ruth lost her husband Cal of 59 years, in 2015. She is predeceased by her brother Robert in 1990. She will be missed by her devoted Nephew Eric J. Lendick and his wife Linda, her cousins Robert and John VanZweden and their families. Funeral arrangements are private. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be announced at a later date.
