Harm Bisschop Obituary

Bisschop, Harm

On Friday, May 22, 2020, Harm Bisschop, beloved husband, father and faithful servant of God, passed away at the age of 84.

Born in Twisk, the Netherlands on May 10, 1936, Harm immigrated with his family to Canada in 1949, moving to the farm near Thamesville where he grew up with his 12 brothers and sisters. The family began attending the First Christian Reformed Church in Chatham, where Harm was a faithful member, frequently serving as an elder. He lived his life in devotion to God, offering his service in prayer, time and resources with thanksgiving.

Harm’s steadfastness and loyalty extended to his work life. Starting at the age of 17, he enjoyed a 48-year career working for Bingham Optical on King Street. Harm lived most of his life, along with his wife, Annie, on the Mull Side Road in Harwich Township. There, he enjoyed many years of gardening and taking Sunday walks with his children in “the bush.” An avid hockey fan, he was notorious for his mental database of statistics and trivia for both minor and major league players, and would frequently delight long-retired minor league players by reaching out to reminisce about their glory days.

Preceded in death by his brothers Henry and John, Harm is survived by Annie (DeBeck), his wife of 61 years, four children, Laura (Jonathan), Bob, Jeff (Lisa) and Karen (Andrew), and grandchildren, Samantha, Robert, Megan, Alecia, Eric and Beth, and four great-grandchildren.

A private family visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Kendrick Funeral Home-Chatham Celebration Centre, 4 Victoria Avenue, Chatham, ON, with burial in Sherman Cemetery, Thamesville.

Donations in memory of Harm to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
