After a long struggle with cancer, Shelley Johnson, age 57, finally found rest on the seventeenth of May at 4:10 PM in the Utah Valley Hospital. Initially intending to name her Michelle, her loving parents Walter and Roberta Jane Houlton decided to name her Shelley at her birth on July 6th, 1962 in Seattle, Washington. She moved to Provo to attend BYU at nineteen, served an LDS mission in California, earned her master's in zoology at BYU in the December of 1990, and was married to her loving husband Russell Johnson on August seventeenth, 1991 in the Salt Lake Temple. She bore and loved four children, Benjamin (22), Christopher (19), Sarah (17), and Savannah (13). She educated them herself, and taught them to be kind like she was. She was a much-loved member of the Provo community, where she has lived since. Shelley was preceded in death by both her mother Roberta, and older sister Gerri. She has left a bit of her sunshine in those who have survived her: all four children and husband, her father, and many relatives on both sides. The funeral will be on Tuesday, the 26th of May, 2020 at 11 AM. It'll be held at the Nelson Family Mortuary, and the viewing will be the hour before. Her interment will follow at the Provo City Cemetery soon after. Due to current events, the funeral invitations are very limited, however a video of the procedings can be viewed on the Nelson Mortuary website. We offer all the gratitude in the world to the many who have stood up to help: the 9th ward Relief society, her wonderful neighbors, her always-loving father, the generous donors to the GoFundMe, and the staff at the Nelson Mortuary. Thank you. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me -Abide with me, Henry Francis Lyte, verse 4.
