Hazel Claudine Ward Phelps 1931 – 2020 Hazel Claudine Ward Phelps, 89, of Ashland, KY, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Kingsbrook Life Care Center. Mrs. Phelps was born April 10, 1931 in Plymouth, England to the late Nicholas J. and Kathleen Perkins Ward. She was also preceded in death by her husband Walter N. Phelps and son Neal Wayne Phelps. Hazel graduated High School in Plymouth, England and attended Marshall University classes to receive her US Citizenship. She came to the United States in 1950 as a bride and was a Life Member of Trans Atlantic Brides and Parents and served as area secretary for 50 years. Hazel retired from Grandview Inn as their Book Keeper and volunteered for the Boyd County Fair. Her favorite past time was knitting. Surviving are Hazel’s children, Yvonne Green, her husband Charles, of Ashland, KY, Sheila J. Barbour, her husband Jeff, of Richmond, IN, Nicholas J. Phelps of Medina, OH, and daughter-in-law Brenda Phelps of Proctorville, OH. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeffrey, Chuck (Nicole), Walter (Eileen), Michael, Dustin, Eric, Stevie, Chris, Paul, great grandchildren, Ashley, Dakota, Griffen, Hayden, Will, Haley, Allisha, Hannah, Lily, Lexi, Matthew and Daniel. After Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, a Memorial Service will take place at Unity Square. Neal-Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home is assisting the family.
