Ida Rogers

Ida Rogers, age 77 of Oliver Springs, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at her home.

Ida Rogers answered to many different names, mom, mamaw, mamaw I, auntie just to mention a few. She wore each of those hats in the most precious way. She so loved having her family and extended family (whoever any one we brought with them). She would say, “come on in, there’s always room for one more.” She knew a lot of people and most of them called her mamaw. She was mamaw to everyone.

She was a God-Fearing Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. I know when she reached Heaven she was shouting Praises to her Lord and Savior! What a special day when we walk those streets of gold and see Jesus face to face! It is such a blessing to know when your loved ones leave this earth, you will see them again. It is not goodbye, it’s see ya later!

She was such a great mother, and friend. She believed in the Golden Rule, God First, Family Second and career third. Oh, and was she ever a hard worker. She did all she could do to give us everything we needed. We didn’t always get what we wanted but we always had what we needed.

Everyone loved her cooking... Oh, she made the best biscuits and cornbread around. She loved to cook for her friends and family so much. It didn’t matter who came around she would say, if you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault! Everybody looked forward to those gravy and biscuit Christmas Eve breakfasts we would have. She would always make 2 or 3 pans of biscuits so there would be some left for brown bags.

Other than cooking, quilting or just spending time with her family, she loved to fish and camp. She could sit on the dock, creek bank or boat all day long, didn’t matter to her if she caught anything or not, she just loved it.

If anyone needed someone to talk to, she was always there. Her heart was as big as the sky and she would sit and listen, give advice when needed or let you put your head on her shoulder. No matter what, you always felt at piece when you left. There was just something about her that everyone loved.

She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas Earl Ruffner; parents, Robert and Rosie Jane Vann; second husband, Jay Rogers; sisters, Odessa Vann, Mildred Seiber, and Margaret Green; brothers, Kenneth Russell, Rev. Freddie Vann, Robert Vann Jr., Ralph Vann, Charles Climber Vann, and Irwin Vann.

Ms. Rogers is survived by her children that she loved so much, Randy Ruffner and Melisa, Ricky Ruffner and Janice, Melissa McBee and Greg; her precious grandchildren, Matthew Ruffner, Shannon Ruffner, Brittney Leffew, Kelsey and Timothy Marlow, Cory McBee, Katrena and Stanley Rambo, Joshua and Tiffany McBee; great grandchildren who she cherished so much, Scarlett Ruffner, Aden Ruffner, Khinley Leffew, Kamdyn Marlow, Dakota and Sydnee Rambo, Addison and Aalyiah McBee. She was known as “Mamaw I” to her precious little Khinley; also survived by her special great nephew, Blake Phillips and special friend, Robert “Bob” Nichols.

She will truly be missed by those of us left on this earth, but OH WHAT A TIME SHE IS HAVING UP THERE!

A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 24, 2020 at Davis Cemetery in Coalfield with Pastor Mike Harbin officiating.
