Bruce Raymond Maes Obituary

Bruce Raymond Maes Born February 7, 1950 in Oakland CA To Avis E. and Laurence A Maes Bruce was pre-deceased by his parents, and one nephew, Michael E. Weston. He is survived by his older sisters, Patricia Aguillera of Davis, CA, Judy Zarit, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Constance Maes, of Georgetown, TX. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Charlene Wooster, of Oakland, CA, Heather Andreuccetti, of La Jolla, CA, David Marston, of Viborg, DK, Derrick Marston, of Oakland, CA, Byron Maes, of Los Angeles, CA, Stefan Giusta, of Priddy, TX, Tom Weston of Amherst, MA, Ben Zarit of Chicago, IL, Megan Forgacs, of Nashville, TN, and Matt Zarit, of Pittsburgh, PA, and twenty great-nieces and nephews. Bruce was an artist, an eccentric and a contrarian. He found his muse in ceramics at U.C. Davis, where he graduated with a B.F.A., and went on to get an M.F.A. at the University of Iowa. He thought he might like to try intellectual property law, so he got a J.D. from Oregon State University, but in the end he followed his own path, working to live rather than living to work. He eventually found his way back to Oregon, to Port Orford, which suited him both because of it’s isolation and natural beauty, and because it allowed him a low stress environment.
