Yvette Mary Delisca Martine Obituary

Martine, Yvette Mary Delisca
1951 – 2020

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of our dear sister, aunt, and friend. Yvette passed away at Diamond House Senior Care home in Warman, SK on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the age 69 years.
Yvette was the oldest child of Joseph and Laurence Martine. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Gilles.

Left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Richard (Robin), Rudy (Shirley), Bernard (Lori), Claude (Roxanne), Claudette (John) and nieces and nephews: Erin; Gerald and Daniel (Christy); Thierry, Gabriella, Juliana, and Cheryce; Brielle and Chanaya; Matthew, Nicholas, and Emilia.

Yvette grew up on the family farm near Antler, where, as a child, she enjoyed helping mom with her huge garden and flowerbeds. She attended school in Bellegarde, Antler, and finished high school in Redvers. Yvette then attended Kelsey in Saskatoon, taking a food management course. She worked in food preparation in Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg and, later, as a security guard at various Winnipeg locations. She loved the security work and was able to see many concerts for free. Yvette loved coming home for Christmas and was overly generous by giving everyone gifts for Christmas, to the chagrin of Dad, and to the delight of her youngest siblings.

Eventually, life was overwhelming Yvette, and she returned home where Mom and Dad helped her get support in Redvers. The assistance of community friends and family allowed Yvette to thrive and become independent in Redvers. She volunteered at the movie theatre until it closed. She worked at the Homestead restaurant. Yvette enjoyed the teasing interaction with some of the regular customers. On Sundays, Yvette would faithfully attend mass, after which she would join Mom and Dad for brunch. Yvette proudly cared for her garden and flowers. She would go for long walks for exercise and to admire the neighbours’ yards, interact with pets, and see the birds, rabbits, and other various wildlife. Yvette’s hobbies were doing puzzles and reading, especially about the Royal family, listening to her vast collection of music, and watching TV.

Shortly after colon cancer surgery, Yvette found out it had spread to her liver. She wanted to stay in Redvers, as Redvers was where Yvette felt comfortable, and she stayed at her home until she could no longer care for herself. She fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Numerous people assisted in Yvette’s journey. We want to thank the following and their staff: Dr. McIntyre, Redvers Health Centre, Redvers Care Home, Redvers Home Care; Dr. Iqbal, Allan Blair Cancer Centre; Diamond House in Warman. Special thanks to Helene, Paul, and Louanne - your support to Yvette and our family during the difficult times was truly appreciated.

A private family graveside service was held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the St. Maurice Parish Cemetery, Bellegarde, SK with Rev. Ronald Andree presiding.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Redvers Care Home, or Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church Redvers.
