Donald J. Schroeder Obituary

Donald J. Schroeder, age 86, of Cascade, passed away early Sunday morning, January 22, 2017, at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Facility in Sheboygan Falls. He was born in Flint, MI on March 21, 1930, son of the late Herman J. and Clara (Hubing) Schroeder. Donald served as a medic in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. On August 8, 1953, he married Dolores Jacoby at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. The couple resided in the Dacada area following their marriage before moving to the Cascade area. Donald was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and served on the St. John the Baptist Catholic School Board. He was also a member of the Ambelang-Ebelt-Lau American Legion Post #386 in Cascade, Catholic Order of Foresters in Belgium, Knights of Columbus in Plymouth, and served as the Town Chairman in the Town of Lyndon for many years. Donald and Delores owned and operated a dairy farm for most of their life. He also worked for Allen Edmonds, Tecumseh Engines, and retired from Ongna Wood Products in 2007. He enjoyed reading, being outdoors, telling stories of his past, and spending time with his loving family. He is survived by: His wife of 63 years: Dolores; Ten children: Joanne Schroeder, Carol Umstot, Kenneth and Janet (Haucke) Schroeder, Monica Schroeder and her special friend Robert Owings, Diane and Michael Rickaby, Jean Steiner, Thomas and Janette (Tackes) Schroeder, Elizabeth and Christian Fitzsimmons, Richard and Linda (Deckliver) Schroeder, and Robert and Gina (Rosetti) Schroeder; 17 Grandchildren: Matthew and Stephanie Umstot, David Umstot, Katherine Schroeder, Sarah Schroeder, Anna Rickaby, Karl and Ronika Kramer, Alicia and Paul Schroeder-Haag, Mikayla Schroeder, Adam and Alicia Schroeder, Jonathan Schroeder, Ryan Fitzsimmons, Lauren Fitzsimmons, Rebecca and Wade Kerfoot, Amber Schroeder and her special friend Andrew Larson, Kristen Schroeder, Emily Schroeder, and Madison Schroeder; 12 Great-grandchildren: Charles, Callista, Elliette, Kaitlyn, Alex, Karlee, GraceLynn, Ethan, Camrynn, Lilian, Carter, and Owen; One aunt: Iva-Jean Hubing; and Two sisters-in-law: Luella Ansay, and Ruth and LeRoy Meyer. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Schroeder, parents, father and mother-in-law: Frank and Martha (Schmitt) Jacoby, two sons-in-law: Joseph Umstot and Kenneth Steiner, sister: Mary Ann (Roman) Schraith, brothers-in-law: John Jacoby, Arnold Jacoby, Roland (Alice) Jacoby, Marvin Jacoby, Duane Jacoby, and Arno Ansay. He was also preceded in death by uncles, aunts and other relatives. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (January 27, 2017) at 11:00 A.M. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. Father Dennis Van Beek will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Thursday evening (January 26, 2017) from 4:00-7:00 P.M. which will be followed by a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue at CHURCH on Friday morning (Jan. 27) from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Donald’s name.
