Lilah Frances Schukar Obituary

Lilah Frances (Criswell) Dixon Schukar was born near the little town of Selden, Kansas on November 30, 1917 to Smith and Mary (Hawes) Criswell.  To this union five children were born; Hazel, Lilah, Clide, Roy and the baby Louise.  Her father was a farmer and when she was four years old the family moved from Kansas to a farm in Beaver County, Oklahoma, northeast of what is now the Slapout community.

Lilah went to high school at Laverne, Oklahoma and graduated in 1937.  She attended college at Alva, Oklahoma for one year, took the teachers exam and received a two-year teaching certificate.  In November of 1937 she married Kermit George Dixon and they were blessed with three children; Dorothy Mae, Kermit Edward and Betty Carolyn.  She taught school the last year at Zelma school and taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Knowles for two years.  Lilah was content being a wife, mother and homemaker.  She raised chickens, made a garden and cared for her family.

Lilah stayed active, going to senior dances, attending the Baptist Church on Sundays, participating in the many events of the Golden Agers senior center and entertaining friends and family at her home.  She was losing her eyesight and could no longer drive her red cadillac car, but she had a good friend, Wanda Shuey, who took her to play cards, to church on Sundays and to the suppers at the senior center.  Her daughter, Betty took her shopping and she rarely missed any birthday parties, holiday gatherings or family get-togethers.  For the last two years, she was living with her daughter and son-in law, Betty and Bill Shepherd on the farm near Knowles, Oklahoma.

Lilah went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her parents; Smith and Mary Criswell, husband; Kermit G. Dixon, husband; Roy Schukar; baby daughter; Dorothy Mae, Sister; Hazel Allen, Brother; Clyde Criswell, granddaughter; April Renea' Shepherd Mills and grandson; Brandon Todd Shepherd.

She was survived by son; Kermit E. Dixon (Jeanie) daughter: Betty Shepherd (Bill), grandsons; Kermit K. Dixon (Krista) and Mark S. Shepherd (Amanda), granddaughters; Shelli Dixon (Marc) and Heather Heckman (Matt), great grandsons; Connor Dixon (Bri), Christian Shepherd and Nathaniel Shepherd, great granddaughters; Bethany Nichole Lopez (Luis), Danea' Swenke (Conor), Jessica Twilleger (Tristan) and Summer Dawn Shepherd, great great grandsons; Liam Dixon and Gage Scott Twilleger, great great granddaughters; Lilah Nichole Lopez and Marley Dixon, sister; Louise Beckwith and brother; Roy Criswell.
