George G. Brennan MD Obituary

George. G. Brennan, MD, 84, a longtime resident of Holmdel, New Jersey, died suddenly on Saturday June 18, 2016. Dr. Brennan, who started his practice in Old Bridge and Sayreville, NJ in the 1960s, specialized in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. During his 57 years of practice, he took care of multiple generations of patients. A physician from a time when doctors made house calls, Dr. Brennan frequently saw patients and took calls at his home in the off hours and on weekends from patients needing advice or a prescription, up until the day of his passing. Through the years, Dr. Brennan cared for many special needs children. Besides his keen ability to spot and diagnose their specialized needs, he also worked very closely with the Child Study Teams in the school districts to ensure education for the whole child. In caring for his young patients, he never lost sight of the parents and was always available for them should they need his help and support. His dedication to and passion for the practice of medicine impacted many in the community, whether he was saving a life, changing a life or supporting a life. He was a long time communicate, lector and religious education teacher at St Catharine’s Church of Holmdel, NJ. Dr. Brennan, the son of George and Bertha Brennan of Donegal, Ireland, was born in the Bronx, New York in 1931, graduated from Regis High School in 1949, Fordham University in 1953 and the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University of Chicago in 1957. He did his residency in pediatrics at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in NYC and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Brennan was an Associate Professor, UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and an Associate Chairman at St. Peter's University Medical Center and had Hospital Appointments - St. Peter's University Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was a long time board member of the St. Peter’s Foundation, Amboy Foundation and Amboy Bank. Dr. Brennan is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Joan (Worfolk) Brennan; his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne Brennan and Mathias Wiebracht of St. Thomas, USVI.; four sons and daughters-in-law, George “Gerry” and Kim Brennan of Howell, NJ, Robert Brennan and Caroline Lester of Satellite Beach Florida, James and Deborah Brennan of Arlington, VA and Thomas Brennan and Carla DeMaria of Lexington, MA; his brother, James Brennan and his wife Nancy Brennan, of West Haven Connecticut and, brother-in-law James O’Loughlin of Tuckahoe, NY, husband of Dr. Brennan’s sister Mary (Brennan) O’Loughlin, who preceded her brother in death; and 11 grandchildren; Thomas, Michelle and Nicolle Wiebracht, and Meredith, Liam, Siobhan, Eamon, Matthew, David, Felice and Kennice Brennan; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Visitation, Friday, June 24th 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday June 25th 10:00 am at Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel.
