Selma L. Kohler Obituary

Selma Louise Kohler was received by her heavenly Father on April 18, 2020.  Selma was born September 29, 1927 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Severin and Alma (Peterson) Johnson. She was the youngest of seven children.

Selma was raised on a farm in Erhard, Minnesota and attended a country school through eighth grade. After her mother's death, Selma left home at age 15 and worked in Pelican Rapids as a waitress. It was there that she met Owen Kohler while they were both washing dishes at his parent’s cafe.  They were married June 14, 1947 and spent 70 years together until Owen's passing in 2017.

Selma loved life and sought so many avenues to share in it.  She was a Brownie Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, baked cookies and was a Pink Lady for 28 years.  She worked at Maxi's Bakery for some time.  She enjoyed sewing for her kids and grandkids and playing Bridge.  She and Owen played Duplicate Bridge all over Montana and neighboring states. Owen and Selma attended St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years and were also charter members of Prairie Peace Lutheran Church in Cut Bank.

Selma was preceded in death by her beloved Owen; her parents; her sisters, Janice Sletta, Elsie Overgaard, Francis Brorson, and Evelyn Johnson; her brothers, Ernest Johnson and Carl Johnson; her daughter, Peggy Tafelmeyer; and an infant son.  She is survived by her daughter, Linda Cady; grandchildren, Laura Barroso (Ernie), Steven Cady (Sara) Heather Holzer (Trevor) Kimberly Tong (Chris) and Nicole Tafelmeyer; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Deloris Reich.

The family would like to thank Glacier Care Center for the love and care she received there for the past two years and Peace Hospice in Great Falls for making her last hours peaceful and comfortable.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 AM at Prairie Peace Lutheran Church. Cookies and coffee will be served at the church following the burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Prairie Peace Lutheran Church, Harvest Food Pantry or a charity of your choice.
