Henry Gipson, Jr., was born May 20, 1950, to the late Allie and Henry Gipson, Sr., in Columbus, Mississippi. On February 17, 2018, Henry took his wings and joined his parents and wife, Evette, in his Heavenly home. Henry attended the Columbus Public Schools and joined the U. S. Army in 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was highly decorated, receiving nine honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, four Overseas Service Bars and the Marksman Qualification Badge. From a young age, Henry was a member of Zion Gate M. B. Church, Inc. Fond memories of Henry will remain in the hearts of his children, Dewan (Tawana) Gipson and Michael (Shante) Gipson, Latonia (Leon) Hunter, and Jamison (Cassandra) Morris of Memphis, TN; and Henry Antwon Gipson of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Dorothy Congress and Tammy Denease of Norwich, CT; and Gladys Morris of Columbus, MS; brothers, Frank Gipson of Seattle, WA; and Gregory Richardson of Ft. Myers, FL; nine grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
