Sam Joseph Gibson, III, 48, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:19 pm May 13, 2020 at his home. He was born June 10, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois to Sam Joseph Gibson, Jr. and Barbara Jean (Butler) Gibson. Sam is survived by his mother, Barbara Gibson; siblings, Marilyn Levy and husband, Stanley of Chicago and Donna Hall of Kokomo, Indiana; nine children, Traviel Gibson of Mount Vernon, MaKenzie Gibson of Dixon, Kiana Gibson of Dixon, Camron Peterson (Nikila Hernandez) of Mount Vernon, Dominique Peterson (Branden Colbert) of Mount Vernon, Kiana Gibson of Dixon, Tajai Gibson of Mount Vernon, Jasmine Gibson (Ian Hamilton) of Mount Vernon, Caleesha Peterson of Mount Vernon, and Tiffany Koehler of Dixon; eight grandchildren, Isaiah Gibson of Mount Vernon, Leyah Peterson of Mount Vernon, DJ Gardet of Dixon, Azaria Gibson of Mount Vernon, Khiree Tucker of Dixon, Des'Mariah Koehler of Dixon, Traviel Gibson, Jr. of Mount Vernon, and Malaki Lindsey of Dixon; life partner, Rhonda Wesley of Mount Vernon; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Dawnita M. Gibson; father, Sam Joseph Gibson, Jr.; nephew, Stanley D. Levy, Jr.; cousin, Dion Butler; and his maternal grandparents, Mary and William Butler. Sam worked for R.J. Corman Switching Co. at Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Princeton, Indiana. He was loved and will be missed. A Private Funeral Service will be held and interment will take place at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
