Minnie Phillips Obituary

Life of Minnie Phillips

On September 10, 2019, a hot and sunny day, God decided He needed a special person in Heaven with Him, so He came and carried you away.  Minnie Phillips was born May 27, 1949, in Artesia, Mississippi. She was the youngest of five children born unto the late Matthew and Annie Mae Phillips. Minnie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at New Prospect M.B. Church. She attended Motley High School. When she became an adult, she moved from Mississippi to New York, New York. She spent over 40 years in New York, working as a production worker as well as working in the cafeteria at the YMCA until her retirement. After her retirement and once her health started failing, she decided it was time to go back home and be with her family. Minnie was a very unique person, she was one of a kind. She lived by her own rules and she said/did what she wanted to do, when she wanted to do it. She was feisty, bossy, brave, bold. She said what she meant and meant what she said. And if someone said anything about her smoking (knowing she shouldn't be), she would definitely tell you how she felt with no hesitation. She didn't like anyone "being in her business" as she would often say. Because of her feistiness, she was often referred to as a "pepper" or a "firecracker." But Minnie also had a different side, she was caring and loving, very family oriented. She had a special love for her family, always encouraging them to stick together and look out for each other.  Minnie gave birth to three children, Darron, Dwayne and Simona Phillips. She had a special bond with her children, she loved them dearly and always wanted to be wherever they were. Welcoming Minnie into Heaven will be her son, Darron Phillips; her parents, Matthew and Annie Mae Phillips; her sisters, Lizzie and Annie Phillips; her niece, Connie Phillips.  Cherishing her memory forever, her sons, Dwayne Phillips, Columbus, MS; Justin Phillips, Magee, MS; her daughter, Simona Phillips, Columbus, MS; her brothers, George Phillips, Macon, GA; Henry Phillips, Muskegon Heights, MI; her nieces, JoAnn Brewer-Burton, Milwaukee, WI; Barbara Phillips, Bronx, NY; her nephews, Ellis (Chuck) Phillips, Easton, PA; Tarshon Phillips, Aberdeen, MS; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
