Louis Elmer DuBois

Louis Elmer (Curly) DuBois 1929 -2017 Waterville - Louis E. DuBois, 87, passed away on January 29, 2017 at Orchard Park Rehab and Living Center in Farmington, Maine where he had resided since November. Louis was born August 3, 1929 in Madawaska, to parents Jean Willie DuBois, and Ozithee Bouchard DuBois. The family relocated to Waterville where he met Anita LaBrie (DuBois) who would become his wife in 1948 and mother to five children. They were married for 52 years before Anita lost a courageous battle with cancer. During his working years Louis was a skilled carpenter and worked for several contracting companies, he was also a talented cook and baker having worked at some of Waterville’s best restaurants including the Jefferson Hotel, Holiday Inn and the Silent Woman. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of the Waterville Elks, American Legion, and VFW for many years. In addition, he held many leadership positions in the Knights of Columbus including, Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and District Deputy and was always ready to volunteer for activities and service projects. A number of serious health issues forced Louis into retirement in his forties but despite his disabilities he never gave up until his body finally gave out. Louis is survived by his five children and spouses, Louise DuBois Martin & fiancée Rick Boivin, Carroll DuBois & Genevieve, Steven DuBois & Bonnie, Paula (DuBois) Nystrum, and Mary Ann (DuBois) Beverly & Bert, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings, Valier, Wallace, Norman, Cecil (Barr), and Priscilla (Hebert). Friends and family are invited to visit Gallant’s Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville, on Feb. 2, Thursday, 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 3 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver St. Waterville, ME at 11:00 a.m. An online guestbook maybe signed and condolences expressed at www.gallantfh.com In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spectrum Generations Meals on Wheels.
