Ruffus L. Smith Obituary

Ruffus Lee Smith was born to the late James Smith and Effie (Jeter) Smith on February 26, 1953 in Union, South Carolina. He was raised and lived in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Williamstown, New Jersey in 1996. Ruffus was called home on May 1, 2020.

His love for family was vast, and the friendships he made throughout his life were forever treasured. Ruffus loved learning about nature, he enjoyed fishing, family barbecues, and when he could leisure travel.

Like his father he knew how to fix just about anything, and was brilliant with technology. He owned video games and other electronics before they were popular in every household. Ruffus received his Electronics Degree from Lyons Technical Institute in 1978, his certification in HVAC from the Technical Institute of Camden County in 2002, and an Associates in Computer and Electronics Technology from ITT Technical Institute in 2012. He served our great country while in the Army in the early-mid seventies and was Honorably Discharged.

Beloved son to the late James William Smith, and survived by Effie Smith. Beloved partner of Cynthia “Bonnie” Ward (deceased). Dearly remembered by former wife of 46 years Vera Taylor. Devoted father of Schawn Taylor (deceased), Nicole Taylor, and Erin Taylor-Smith.  Loving grandfather of Cee’Asia Islam (deceased), KBN Islam, and Serenity Islam. Dear brother of James Howard Smith (deceased), Linda Smith (deceased), Brenda Smith (deceased), Terrance “Terry” Smith, Denise Smith, and Louis.  Survived by many family and friends who loved him dearly, including cousins, nieces and nephews.

A family celebration will be held at a later date, and a video tribute is soon to come.
