Evelyn E. Kammes (nee Marwood), 94, Bartlett, died Sunday, January 29, 2017 in Central DuPage Hospital. Born August 1, 1922 in Bensenville, IL, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fryer and Henrietta (nee Brettmann) Marwood. She attended Wheaton High School. She married Elmer Kammes on May 26, 1940 and were married for 62 years. Mrs. Kammes was raised in Itasca and Wheaton, and lived most her life in Bartlett. She was a homemaker and enjoyed doing needlework, embroidery, quilting and gardening. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court #1063 St. Theresa of the Little Flower, Bloomingdale. She enjoyed demonstrating “embroidery” at the DuPage County Fair and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. Survivors include daughters Judith Papacek of Union City, GA, Ellen (Rick) Sietmann of West Chicago, IL, Deborah (Randy) Bowe of Milton-Freewater, OR; son Leonard (Sandra) Kammes of Hampshire, IL; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and her sister Mildred Barton of Montgomery, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Kenneth, daughter Dorothy Atten, granddaughter Cheryl Papacek, grandson Douglas Atten, sons-in-law Cliff Papacek and William Atten, daughter-in-law Linda (Cooper) Kammes, granddaughter-in-law Cathy (Anthony) Kammes, twin sister Eleanor Morgan, half-brothers Wesley and Vernon Marwood, Erwin, Ben and Herman Scharlau and half-sister Grace DuPuis. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Resurrection Catholic Church 30W350 East Army Trail, Wayne, IL with Father Dan Stempora officiating. A visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Road at Stearns Road, Bartlett, IL from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 2 and a 1 hour visitation prior to the funeral Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery in Elgin, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
