Joyce Jennings Wright

Joyce Jennings Wright, age 90, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017. She was born to the late Bert Jennings and Alma Carnal Jennings. As a native of Welch, W.Va. Joyce was a 1944 graduate of Welch High School and Avery Business College. She served as office manager at Greendale Retirement Home and retired as a Deputy Clerk from the General District Court of Washington County in 1991. She was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church and was active in the Senior Adult Choir where she served as pianist. She was a charter member of the Depot Art Association in Abingdon and was a member and coordinated volunteer workers of the Washington County Habitat for Humanity. In addition to her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John Andrew “Bud” Wright, Sr. She is survived by her sons: Drew (Molly) Wright of Abingdon, Va.; Brad (Hilda Beheler) Wright of Logan, W.Va.; daughters, Karen (Ralph) Wilson of Durham, N.C. and Robin (Keith Kirtley) Wright of Abingdon, Va.; brother, Bill Jennings of Welch, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Pauline Grubb of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Abingdon Baptist Church with the Rev. Parke L. Deans and the Rev. Michael Poole officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where pallbearers will be selected from family. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 W. Main St., Abingdon, Va. 24210.
