Viola “Toots” Verna Westmeyer, 86, Mandan, North Dakota, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 3, 2017, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Mandan with Rev. Ryan Wolfe officiating. Visitation is scheduled for 5-7:00 PM, Thursday, February 2, 2017, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan. Toots was born July 9, 1930, to Arthur and Hulda (Buddeau) Zumbaum in Denhoff, North Dakota, where she was raised and educated. On March 12, 1953, she married Harold Westmeyer in Mandan. Toots sold cosmetics for 39 years and volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels for 22 years. She collected recipes since she was a teenager, and was known for her famous pickles. She enjoyed country and polka music, playing cards and loved dancing and bowling. She also volunteered in many areas of her church. She is survived by her husband, Harold; two sons, Monty (Harumi) Westmeyer, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Kevin (Gina) Westmeyer, Milton, Florida; one daughter, Sharri (Herman) Galster, Bismarck; two sisters, Beatrice Sorensen, Peach Tree Corner, Georgia, and Vivian Hilken, Wilton; five grandchildren, Melody (Iwan) Balcet, Melissa Westmeyer, Christ Galster, Mandy Galster, and Kacey Galster; four great-grandchildren, Maika, Nami, Alexis, and Brooklyn. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold “Barney” and Russell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
