Gary Knapp

ABERDEEN – Gary Knapp 54 of Aberdeen and formerly of Webster passed away Sunday January 29, 2017 at his home in Aberdeen. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday February 3, 2017 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster; Rev. Ken Ballard will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5-7 P.M. closing with a prayer service at Fiksdal Funeral Service. Gary Ray Knapp was born on Monday July 30, 1962 to James and Doris (Atwood) Knapp at Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Webster. Gary attended school in Webster and furthered his education at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, South Dakota. After finishing his electrician schooling he moved to Texas for a short time before returning to Webster. He and his son Jerry and daughter Leah made their home at the Knapp family farm northeast of Webster. Gary taught his children what they needed to know about living on the farm which included raising chickens and pigs! Meanwhile, Gary took a position at Riggenberg Electric in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He commuted to Aberdeen for his job for the next eleven years. In 2001, he moved to Aberdeen and began working for Schwan Electric. In 2006, he met the love of his life, Laura Devine. The couple purchased a home together in Aberdeen at Lakeside Estates, where they were currently residing. Gary was a member of United Methodist Church in Webster. He enjoyed riding motorcycle, listening to music(especially AC/DC), spending time with his friends, watching TV shows including “Deadliest Catch”, “Ice Road Truckers”, and “Johnny Carson”. Above all else, Gary loved his family. He especially loved each moment spent with his grandchildren. Gary passed away Sunday January 29, 2017 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 54 years, 5 months and 30 days. He will be sadly missed by his children, Jerry and Leah both of Aberdeen, SD, his girlfriend Laura Devine of Aberdeen, SD, six grandchildren, Micah, Kaia, Zovvia, Weston, Kendra, and Gavin. He is also survived by three brothers, James (Mary) Knapp of Ballantine, MT, Kermit Knapp of Webster, SD, Greg Knapp of Webster, SD, and one sister Cheryl (David) Krueger of Groton, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Allen Knapp and sister-in-law Edith Knapp.
