John Paul Besch Obituary

John Paul Besch of Sweeny went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 29, 2017 in Sweeny, Texas. He was born on March 19, 1929 to John and Viola Besch in West Columbia, Texas. Paul married the love of his life, Wanda on June 3, 1946. They lived in Sweeny for all of their married life where they raised two daughters- Paula and Diana. They built a successful business together-P & W Materials Inc. and worked together in it for 32 years. Paul was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was devoted to his family and was always present for their various activities. He was a Bulldog fan and especially loved and was proud watching all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren in Sweeny sports. His family was his life and he became their Prayer Warrior. Anytime there was a need or problem they called Pop to pray. Paul and Wanda served at First Baptist Church-Old Ocean which is now New Shores Baptist Church. All of his life he gave generously to family, friends, employees, and many times strangers. In the last years of his life, he became an avid reader and read more than 1700 books, all westerns and watched Matt Dillon daily. He was true sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. Many of his grandchildren will say Pop taught us to fish and hunt. Everyday of his life he made all his family feel special and he talked to them all often about how amazing his Lord is and how grateful he was for his forgiveness and love. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Paula Smith & husband, Darrell and Diana Phillips & husband, Scott; grandchildren, Robbie Richers, Paulette Erikson (Paul), Christi Wesley (Ray), Nicole Phillips, and Stephanie Harbin (Frank); great grandchildren, Josh Richers, Jace Richers, Cody Erikson, Caitlin Erikson, Corey Bass (Michaela), Kymbrey Bass, Kierstyn Wesley, Collin Phillips, Christopher Volpe, Bradyn McGinn, and Ava Harbin; great great grandchildren, Coulter Bass and Kynslie Haynes. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Besch; brother, Elmer Lee Besch and sister, Margaret Gipe . Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at 2:00 pm at New Shores Baptist Church with B.J. McCurdy officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until service time.
