Georgette Laba

Georgette Laba passed away on January 22, 2017. Georgie was a resident of St. Albans Vermont for many years and recently of Essex Junction, VT. She was born in St. Lucien Quebec on November 3, 1920, the daughter of Walter H. Brown and Maria J. (Benoit) Brown. At an early age her family moved from Canada to the Sheldon, VT area and later to West Enosburg. She graduated from Enosburg High School in 1939. Georgette married Frank “Joe” Laba August 16, 1947 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls, VT. Joe passed away on January 4, 1989. She was employed at the former A&P on Lake Street in St. Albans as a cashier and bookkeeper for several years until it closed in 1972. She later worked for the Wm. Doolin Co. and joined Lorraine’s Ladies Wear when it opened, working there from 1981 until 1994. Her survivors include her son Randy and his wife Rose of Essex Jct. VT; granddaughter Julie and her husband Stephen Shaw; granddaughter Terri Laba and friend Jeff Rocheleau; great grandson Theodore Robert Shaw, all of Essex Junction VT She is also survived by her sister Polly Cannizzaro and her husband Rosario of South Burlington, VT; sister in law Barbara Brown of Massachusetts; sister in law Joanne Woolery of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by brothers Robert, Leo and George Brown; sisters Cecile Myott, Betty Taylor, Simone Duquette, Laura Brown, Fern Lumnah, and Teresa Duffy along with sister in law Phyllis Brown and several brothers in laws. Georgette’s family would like to thank the staff at Mansfield Place Assisted Living and Bayada Hospice services for providing such wonderful care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish 4 Prospect St., Essex Junction VT on Saturday January 28th at 11:00AM. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Albans VT at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the charity of your choice.
