Condon Ralph Clough Obituary

On Friday, March 13, 2020, Condon Ralph Clough, Sr., loving husband and father of two children, passed away just three days short of his 102nd birthday. He was born in Clinton, TN to Earl Plumley Clough and Ruby Missel (Slover) Clough and attended elementary and high school in Clinton. He was vice president of his senior class, president of the "C" Club and Captain of the football team. He married Faye Conner (House) Clough on May 5, 1940 and raised two children, Condon Ralph Clough Jr. of Oak Ridge, TN and Nancy Clough Owens (Larry) of Colleyville, TX.

C.R.worked as an agent for Life and Casualty Insurance Company and in the Oak Ridge Post Office before beginning a career in fire protection in the late 1940s. He started as a Fire Inspector with the Army Auxiliary Military Police Manhattan District followed by 15 years with the Oak Ridge Fire Department, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Subsequently he spent 20 years with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, retiring in 1980 as a Shift Captain and Training Officer. He taught American Red Cross First Aid during the "Cold War" era to the Oak Ridge Schools and received a commendation for his work. He was president of Highland View Elementary School PTA and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Oak Ridge for 12 years. He also did freelance photography for 20 years.

C.R was recently inducted into the Clinton Football Hall of Fame and enjoyed following local high school football teams. He was an avid lover of classical, big band and jazz music and had a broad interest in reading and bargain shopping at local markets. In his last ten years, he self published several books on topics of his interests and local life. He also enjoyed walking, particularly the North Ridge Trail near his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife Faye and a brother Earl WIlford Clough. He is survived by his two children, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a niece and nephew and several cousins. No funeral services will be held and the family plans a celebration of his life in the near future. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Smokies, Appalachian Bear Rescue, Oak Ridge Habitat for Humanity or a charity of choice
