James W. Decoteau

James W. Decoteau, 66, of Springfield passed away May 8, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. James, son of the late William and Constance (Cardinal) Decoteau, was born in Springfield on October 20, 1953. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he was a graduate of Springfield Trade High School and went on to work as a custodian for Glennbrook Middle School in Longmeadow where he retired after 30 years of faithful service. After retirement, James, also known as “the Mayor of East Springfield”, enjoyed working as a crossing guard in Springfield on the corner of St. James Ave. and Page Blvd for several years. He enjoyed fishing, fireworks, and having tag sales. Above all, James loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Amanda Decoteau. James will be missed by all who knew him, including his beloved wife, Laurie J. (Douglas) Decoteau; his daughter, Melissa Connors and her husband Adam of Hampden; his son, Andrew Decoteau of Springfield; his grandchildren, Brendan and Kiera Connors; his brother, William Decoteau and his wife Rita of Springfield; his sister, Christine Lalli of Springfield; his sister in law, Lisa Goodrich of Enfield; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. A memorial service will be held for James at a later date. Sampson’s Family Chapels have been entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in James’ memory may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
