Richard Alan Prado

PORTSMOUTH- Richard Alan Prado, 66, died January 15, 2017. A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Jimmy R. and Jessie C. Prado. Richard worked in General Electric’s Suffolk plant for 15 years before going to Virginia Beach General Hospital, where he retired as director of maintenance. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, and was an avid deep sea fisherman, winning several fishing trophies. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, June; two sisters, Patricia Thorne and Debra Prado Parker; two brothers, Jimmy Prado, Jr. and wife Judy, and Roger Prado and wife Karen; sister-in-law, Lynn Collins; six nieces and nephews, Corey Parker (godson), Angel Logan, Jason Prado, Josh Prado, Kyle Prado, and Amber Parker; and eight great-nieces and –nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to neighbors, Bob and Tammy Wagner and Hedi Stevens. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Friday from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
