Merion C. VanHoose

Merion C. VanHoose of Miami, OK passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. He was 72. Merion was born July 1, 1944 in Picher, OK to Charles Arthur and Rachel Pearl (Jackson) VanHoose. He had lived in Picher all his life until moving to Miami in 1999. Marion was a carpenter for many years and later worked for Pillsbury/General Mills in Vinita, OK. He was a member of Abounding Faith Church in Miami, OK. Merion was preceded in death by his daughter Judy VanHoose on August 26, 1988, his parents, 2 step-fathers James Herman Thomasson and Clarence Nutter and his siblings, Esther Peal VanHoose, Fern Andrews, Velma Akin, Geneva Crabtree, Lynn VanHoose, Lonnie VanHoose and Arthur "Bud" VanHoose. Merion is survived by his wife Shirley VanHoose of the home, his granddaughter Erica Tyree of Morgan's Gap, KY, his great-grandchildren, Heather and Johnnie Whiteley of Miami, OK and Kylee Whiteley of Morgan's Gap, KY, 2 brothers, Scott VanHoose and wife Joyce of Carthage, MO and Charles Thomasson of Baxter Springs, KS and 2 sisters, Judy Wade and husband Donnie and Patty McAfee and husband Ed all of Baxter Springs, KS. Graveside services will be Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, KS with Rev. Kay Snowden and Rev.Ed McAfee officiating. Johnnie Whiteley, Kristopher Newton, Thomas Dunbar, Shawn Sutherland, Taylor Shaffer and Yancey Grayeyes will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
