<p>Lloyd D. Richter, age 69, of Marshalltown, IA, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away on Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home of Marshalltown.&nbsp; A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta with the Rev. John H. Schmidt officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery of rural Alta (Hanover) with military rites conducted by the VFW Post #6172 of Alta.&nbsp; A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.&nbsp;</p> <p>Lloyd Richter was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on July 18, 1947 to August and Margaret Richter. After his mother&#39;s death when he was 12 years old, he lived in the Boys Home in Toledo, Iowa. He went to live with a foster family in Ottumwa, IA when he was 15 years old, and graduated high school from Ottumwa High School in 1967 while living with his foster family.</p> <p>After graduation, Lloyd served in the Air Force from 1970-1972. He later served in the Navy from 1973-1977, and sailed on the USS Voge. Lloyd was a Vietnam-era veteran.</p> <p>Lloyd married Ila (Hinkeldey) Swartz on August 25, 1979 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake IA. He and Ila were married for 29 years, until her death in November 2008.</p> <p>Lloyd worked at Bil-Mar Foods as a forklift operator until his retirement in 2009.</p> <p>Lloyd passed away at the Veterans Home in Marshallton IA, on February 7, 2017,</p> <p>Lloyd loved to fish, and would be picnicking and fishing with his family at the lake any chance he could get. He would spend hours at a time sitting on a dock with his mother-in-law, both with poles in hand. The main topic of conversation at those times were whether or not the fish were jumping, and if it would be good fishing.&nbsp; He was lifelong baseball fan, and he always cheered for the Yankees.&nbsp; He loved music, particularly Buddy Holly music, and he loved to dance. You could occasionally catch him and Ila dancing on the living room floor on a Saturday afternoon.&nbsp; Lloyd enjoyed spending time with friends, and loved to go to Northside Bar for a beer and a game of snooker on Friday nights.</p> <p>Although Lloyd had no children of his own, he loved kids. He became stepfather to two teenagers when he married Ila, and put up with their teenage years, which included many of their various friends. He also loved being a grandfather once those teenagers grew up and had children of their own.</p> <p>Lloyd is survived by his stepdaughter, Heather Perkins, of Molalla, OR; his stepson, Ralph (Nancy) Swartz, of Lancaster, OH; his grandchildren Robert Swartz of Storm Lake IA, Sarah (Jeremy) Taylor of Lancaster OH, and Grace Perkins of Irving TX; his sisters-in-law Judy Hinkeldey of Alta IA and Mary Davis of Topeka KS; his foster sister Nancy Morrow of Ottumwa IA; his foster brother Bill Petrehn of Ottumwa IA; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
