Lawrence T. "Larry" Collins Obituary

Lawrence T. “Larry” Collins, 64, of Acton and West Harwich, formerly of Somerville, died peacefully at home following a long illness on Saturday, January 14, 2017 with his family by his side and his beloved Patriots game on nearby. He was the loving husband for 36 years of Linda (McGrath) Collins. He was born in Cambridge on April 16, 1952, the son of Mary (Keane) Collins of Somerville and John F. Collins and his wife Linda of Quincy. After graduating from North Cambridge Catholic High School in 1970, where he was president of his class, he graduated from Boston State College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Larry’s career began at Somerville High School where he taught Psychology and Social Studies for eight years. After leaving that field, he began a 30+ year career in high technology sales, picking up many awards along the way. Some of the companies Larry worked for include Oracle, OpenText and most recently, InterPro Solutions in Stoneham, where he leaves behind many dear friends. Larry passionately followed his Boston sports teams - his beloved Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins, and equally loved sports talk radio that followed, often calling in to offer his own cogent analyses. A part time resident of West Harwich, MA for over 30 years, Larry loved the beaches of Cape Cod, enjoying many good times with family and friends. He also enjoyed many boating trips around Boston Harbor. An avid golfer, Larry never let his handicap spoil his good times on the course. In addition to his wife, parents, and stepmother, he leaves behind his children, Samantha Rose Collins of Boston, Christina Marie Collins of Los Angeles, CA, and Alexander William Collins of San Diego, CA. He also leaves his sister, Patricia Antonelli and her husband Joe of Medford, his brother, John M. Collins and his wife Fran of North Reading, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, and colleagues. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for Larry on Thursday, January 19th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral will be held on Friday, January 20th at 10 am from the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Lahey Hospital in support of the Harpley Endowment Fund, which allows cancer patients and their families to pay for additional care. Contributions can be made online at Lahey.org or by check payable to Lahey Hospital Harpley Fund and mailed to Lahey Hospital, 41 Mall Road, Burlington MA 01805. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
