Hillsborough: Marguerite Riggs, 92, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was born in Lynchburg, VA, the daughter of the late Joseph Washington Starkey and Maggie Hunt Starkey. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riggs is preceded in death by Daddy-Uncle, John Knott and Momma Aunt, Bessie Knott; husband, Raymond Riggs.; two sons, Raymond Riggs Jr. and John Riggs; twin sister, Josephine Starkey Guthrie; and grandchild, Gina Riggs. Mrs. Riggs is survived by her sons, David Riggs and wife Lilly and Bob Riggs; daughters, Mary Elder, Genny Willis and husband Robert, Kathy Bell and husband Ed, Donna Jacobs and husband Owen, Debra Nestor and husband Frank; sister, Maggie Starkey Guthrie; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Riggs; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated loving mother who will be missed more than words can express. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday at Falling River Baptist Church, Brookneal, VA, with Pastor Hoyt Shufford officiating. Burial will follow in the Falling River Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Clements Funeral Home in Hillsborough and from 12 to 1 p.m. at Falling River Baptist Church.
