McNichol: Darwin June 13, 1945 – May 5, 2020 In the morning of May 5, 2020, Darwin Reid McNichol died suddenly and unexpectedly. Darwin was born June 13,1945 to Louis McNichol and Marjorie McNichol (nee Menzies). Darwin was the eldest of five children, and lived his early life on a farm northeast of Nokomis. He attended school at Richfarms S.D., and later Nokomis Elementary and High School, where he graduated from grade 12. Darwin had several jobs, including the Wheat Pool and Govan Credit Union, before settling into farming, south east of Nokomis. Darwin was an excellent sportsman, taking particular joy in golf, curling, hunting and fishing. He also took a keen interest in genealogy and local history, spending many hours reading and researching old newspapers and making contact with relatives across North America. Family was the most important thing to Darwin. He was always extremely proud of his family, and loved them with all his heart. He leaves to mourn his children, Cheryl Bec (Ryan), Bryce McNichol and Michelle McNichol (Christopher Leier), as well as his grandchildren, Brandon Bec, Summer McNichol, and Anthony Leier. As well, Darwin leaves Christine McNichol, dear friend Cheryl King, and his siblings, Diane Stone (Richard), Ross McNichol (Anne), and Raymond McNichol (Todd Bass). Darwin was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Morris, Ben, and Randy. Darwin will be sadly missed by those who knew him best, and always remembered for his keen sense of humour and generous nature. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation may consider donating to the Nokomis Cemetery Perpetual Maintenance Fund. Due to COVID-19 restrictions at this time a Private Family Graveside Service will take place in Nokomis on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
