James W. Guthrie, 59 of Westmont, IL went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2020. Jim was the beloved husband of Maria Guthrie nee Kulas, loving father of Ana Marie and Madelyn Maria Guthrie; cherished brother of Daniel (late Paula) Guthrie, Michael (Sherry) Guthrie, Gayle (Mike) Taschler and the late MaryLou Guthrie (Lois Nowak); son of the late Daniel James and the late Rosemary Guthrie nee Siuda. Jim was uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim earned his BA from the University of California, Berkeley, his JD from DePaul University College of Law and his MBA from Northwestern University, Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Jim began an illustrious business career as President of an armored car transportation company then worked in the Wealth Management sector for the past twenty years. Most recently Jim worked at Wells Fargo Advisors as a Market Manager - Managing Director in the Chicago Southwest Market. Some of Jim’s past and present activities include: Founder and Board Member of the Annual Chicagoland Wealth Management Forum, Member of the FINRA Dispute Resolution, Board of Advisors, Chicago Advisory Board Member of the Salvation Army, C.S. Lewis Institute Fellow and Member of Advisory Board of Chicago, Christian Legal Society of Northern Illinois, Choir Member, Christian Church of Clarendon Hills Jim was a man with a big heart and a passion for life. He cherished his family, including their many dogs and horses that brought such joy. He always jumped at the opportunity to attend horse shows and dog shows around the country, creating life-long friendships and treasured family memories. Jim was unwavering in his faith and took great pleasure in serving his Lord. When he wasn’t singing in the choir at his church, he was often heard belting out K-Love tunes in the shower. Jim was dedicated to his work, passionate about mentoring and tireless in his pursuit of excellence. But just as important, was his commitment to bringing light and laughter, positivity and kindness into every room he entered, whether it was a board room or his own living room. His warm smile, authenticity and contagious sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a messenger for what is good in this world. Jim would want us to know that we are all still connected. This verse was shared often by him. "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:38-39. Jim was courageous and uncomplaining during his hard fought four year battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested charitable contributions be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and The Salvation Army. To view the live stream of services please click here.
